Two men have been selected at interview to join Whitstable Harbour Board as new members.
-
Whitstable Harbour.
Their appointments have to be approved by Canterbury City Council, which manages the harbour via the board, but it is expected that Peter Steen and Paul Moore will join from the beginning of October to serve three years as 'independent' members - that is, non-councillor members.
The vacancies were advertised over the summer and 11 applications were received, with three people being interviewed.
Peter Steen is the Director of Marine Operations for the Port of London Authority. He recently moved to Whitstable and wants to become involved in the local community.
Mr Moore is currently the Director of Customer and Corporate Services at the London Borough of Bexley, and his experience also includes responsibility for improving the commercial viability of the Port of Ramsgate and developing its strategic options. He has lived in Whitstable for eight years.
- The full complement of the harbour board is six councillors and three non-councillors (called independent members).
- There are six board meetings a year, open to the public. The next one is on 16th September, 3pm, at Whitstable Castle.
- There is no salary for members, but they are paid a modest allowance and appropriate expenses.
