British menu offered at new restaurant

A welcome newcomer to the Whitstable restaurant scene, The Oxford is in the former Saltmarsh premises opposite the top of Nelson Road. British fare is advertised, but that doesn't mean steak and chips. The first menu (which I understand is changing this week) included pork, chicken and roast cod plus a veggie option. My cod was nicely cooked and presented, and the starter of asparagus and pancetta proved a tasty appetiser. The pudding menu looked tempting. One of my companions was disappointed that the elderflower jelly had run out but consoled himself with chocolate! Good food, quiet decor - our only quibble was that the wine list is a bit short. I wonder why?
