After booking a table at 10am for 7.30pm we got a call at 5pm to tell us no table was available. After complaining this was the response from the owner:- Dear Mrs Colley I received your email this morning and have had a chat with the staff that were on that day. Obviously you were quite angered by what happened (I think I counted 3 exclamation marks), and by the whole tone of your email, I doubt I'll be able to do much good. Given that you booked on the day for a Saturday, it was always likely that you would be assigned to stools, as all the tables would have been booked long before, especially as it was the second weekend of the Oyster Festival. As you booked on line, you would have received our automated response, which states quite clearly that during especially busy times, you may well be assigned stools. It also states this at the time of booking. The online bookings facility also affords you an opportunity to post any specific requests (ie you'd rather not sit on stools). The call in the evening was a courtesy to make sure you were aware that you had been assigned stools, as we had not received any indication from you at that point that you would rather not. The stools at the bar and around the windows represent a third of our seating and are very popular with customers, and are not an unusual or indeed lesser option for smaller parties, given that the full menu is still available with these, and lest we forget, we are a Tapas Bar. I regret that you were so incensed by our 'way of doing business' and felt compelled to cancel and to follow that with an aggressive and threatening email. I can only hope that you went on to have a pleasant evening at the restaurant that was eventually lucky enough to enjoy your custom. Regards Christopher Williams. Being half spanish I can say from experience no spanish bar would treat customers in this way. Very poor.

A cool Tapas Bar/Restaurant serving the very best modern & traditional Spanish cooking. Voted in the top 10 in the UK by The Telegraph.

We often sneak in on a Sunday afternoon when guests have gone and we think, if anything, that it has improved over the years. Often, dishes seem like more traditional menu portions rather than tapas but at least each portion is a genuine "sharing" one. Reliable food and wine and cosy atmosphere while you watch the bustle of Harbour Street outside. Great for "people watching" - which is what we love to do in Spanis cafe society anyway!.
