I made tracks for the Whistlestop the other day, the cafe/restaurant under the railway bridge at the top of Oxford Street, where I enjoyed a fishfinger sandwich (homemade rather than packet ) with crisp salad garnish. This quirky building has some local history: it used to be the Labour Club, where Alan Davies cut his comedy teeth, and before that I think it was Whitstable station. Trains rumble overhead from time to time, but as we don''t have a very frequent rail service this is not too intrusive. Other customers seemed to be regulars, and the welcome was warm.
