BY George, these two teenagers want to encourage us to swap recycling sacks as part of their GCSE citizenship project.

George Mitchell, 14, from Whitstable, and George Watson, 13, from Herne Bay, both go to Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Faversham.

As part of their project they have hit on a wheeze to improve recycling in the area.

George Mitchell said: “Many people say they have to buy clear plastic sacks from their local supermarket, as they are not receiving enough from the city council.

“We think a swap scheme would be a good idea. Those with spare sacks can swap with families who think they don’t get enough.

“We talked to the council, and it said it is not planning to do anything new with recycling for the next few years.

“We were not happy about that, as we had already handed out questionnaires and everyone thinks it is a great idea.

“If the council won’t change, we want to do it ourselves, and have started our own swap scheme to encourage people to recycle.”

Is this a good idea? Write to us at the address on page 23 with your comments.
