All quiet as roadworks shut Sea Street

It was eerily quiet in the bottom end of Whitstable today, as roadworks began in Sea Street to repair sewer connections.

Enough signs to make sure no traffic goes down Sea Street?
-
Roadworkers change the one-way direction sign in Harbour Street.
Because Sea Street is shut, the traffic system has been reversed in Harbour Street which necessitated a large number of police, CPSOs and road engineers putting new signs in place and advising drivers on the first Monday morning of the temporary arrangements.
Buses going towards Tankerton are now stopping in Harbour Street, rather than near the Horsebridge.
If you want to come into Whitstable town centre from the Tankerton direction, you must turn left into Cromwell Road by the Gorrell Tank car park.
The work will continue for up to two weeks.
Comments
Tempted to make a controversial comment that only in Whitstable does the traffic tend to flow better when such a route is put into place! Not that a one-way style system hasn't been suggested before...every few years since 1948, in fact!

ReportA burst water main at Swalecliffe has added to the traffic difficulties this week. There are tailbacks on to the Thanet Way from the railway bridge at Chestfield and Swalecliffe station, so best to avoid this junction.
