Sun brings everyone out

What a weekend in Whitstable! As the sun broke through a foggy Saturday morning, people celebrated the end (?) of a long winter by coming out on to the beach and the streets.
-
We are sailing - a new season begins for Whitstable Yacht Club.
Whitstable Yacht Club enjoyed its first successful sailing programme this year (after last weekend's cancellation when the safety boats broke down), so the return of dinghies and catamarans off the coast was a welcome sight for beach strollers.
The Harbour Village was open for business and busy, with more stalls this year.
And even the march protesting at the closure of Whitstable's postal delivery office probably benefited from the good weather, as an impressive number of people strode around town with banners and whistles on Saturday afternoon.
Inevitably, perhaps, the Whitstable Lifeboat was in action as boat owners took to the water and some got into difficulties. A motor boat broke down in the Swale between Faversham and Conyer on Saturday, and on Sunday evening the crew were called to a 36 foot yacht which ran aground off Harty Ferry. The three people involved in the two incidents were all safe and well.
- Spotted among the many visitors to town at the weekend - the actor who plays Max Branning in EastEnders. (Thanks to Twitterers for this!)

Just seen Bill Nighy along Whitstable seafront - twice! Passed him first near the sailing club on our way to Tankerton - then blow me down if we didn't pass him on the way back in almost the same place a couple of hours later. He was wearing a trademark dark suit, and was accompanied by another besuited but younger man. The film actor has been in Pirates of the Caribbean and Love Actually among many others...
